How to Measure for the Perfect Quilt Fit for your Bedding

Finding the right size for your primitive quilt depends on your mattress thickness and how much "drop" you prefer on the sides of your bed. To find your ideal dimensions, follow these three simple steps:

  1. Measure the Width: Measure across the top of your mattress from one side to the other.
  2. Calculate the Drop: Measure from the top of the mattress down toward the floor (the "drop"). Decide if you want the quilt to cover just the mattress, hit the top of the bed skirt, or reach the floor.
  3. Find Your Total: Multiply your desired drop by two, then add it to the mattress width. For example, if your Queen mattress is 60" wide and you want a 15" drop on each side, you need a quilt that is at least 90" wide (60 + 15 + 15).
Pro Tip: If you have a modern, extra-thick pillow-top mattress, we always recommend stepping up to a Luxury King size to ensure full coverage and a beautiful, draped aesthetic.
